Is manicure and pedicure contraindicated for pterygium?

When we have a client with the following condition: pterygium

The skin grabs onto the nail plate and grows forward as the nail grows out, making the nail look as if the cuticle is growing over it
In even more unusual cases, the skin of the fingertips is attached to the underside of the nail
The nail itself may be thin, fragile, pitted, or ridged

Description

Pterygium is the inward advance of skin over the nail plate, usually the result of trauma to the matrix due to a surgical procedure or by a deep cut to the nail plate.

Pterygium results in the loss of the nail plate due to the development of scar tissue. Cortisone is used to prevent the advancement of scar tissue.
